FAQS
frequently asked questions
DO YOU OFFER A FREE CONSULTATION?
Yes! Please click on any of the “Request an Appointment” buttons and you’ll be taken to my online calendar system where you can request a complimentary 15-minute phone or video consultation. You can also email me directly at ellen.mccormack.mft@gmail.com if you are more comfortable communicating that way.
WHAT ARE YOUR FEES?
I charge $275 for the initial clinical evaluation, $250 for one-hour follow-ups, and $225 for forty-five-minute follow-ups. My fees are the same whether sessions are in-person or virtual.
DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?
I am considered an out-of-network provider. I used to be an in-network provider with several insurance companies years ago, but the additional paperwork and red tape got old fast. By being out of network, I can now focus all my professional time on direct client care. How it works now is that my clients pay for services weekly and then seek reimbursement from their insurance provider later, if they have out-of-network benefits (which are included in most PPO plans). If you have questions or concerns about this process, I am happy to walk you through it.
DO YOU OFFER SLIDING SCALE RATES?
I have a limited number of sliding scale spots for people facing economic challenges or for people from historically disadvantaged groups. Please contact me directly if you would like to discuss sliding scale options further.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT IN THE FIRST SESSION?
We can meet in person or over video for the initial one-hour appointment. During the meeting, we’ll go over your history, your goals, and your preferences regarding therapy. Together we’ll determine what therapy approach and frequency is the best fit for you and your situation.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM FOLLOW-UP SESSIONS?
In each session, you will feel honored, accepted, and welcomed. You’ll set goals, learn coping skills, and figure out what’s holding you back. You’ll be challenged and encouraged to be honest. While therapy often involves discussing difficult thoughts and feelings, each meeting should ultimately leave you feeling hopeful and empowered. Whether your therapy is short-term (4-8 sessions) or long-term (6 months +), consistency and honesty are the keys to success. It is best to attend all appointments on time and to share any concerns or questions you have openly and directly.
WHAT IF I DON’T WANT TO COME TO IN-PERSON SESSIONS? CAN I DO THERAPY OVER VIDEO?
While many people prefer in-person therapy, others like the flexibility and added comfort of doing sessions from their home, car, school, or office. As long as you have good internet and a private place to talk, then you can do video therapy.
WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL OR RESCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT?
Please give at least 24 hours’ notice for any cancellations that are not due to a true emergency. If you miss an appointment or cancel less than a day in advance, a late cancellation fee equivalent to your usual fee will be charged.
